High School Musical é um filme-musical adolescente da Disney Channel Original Movie, dirigido por Kenny Ortega, que conta a história de dois adolescentes que se conhecem e, na escola, descobrem a paixão em comum pela música. É considerado um dos maiores fenômenos da Disney e vendeu mais de 8 milhões de discos de sua trilha sonora. Com isso High School Musical totaliza com o primeiro álbum e o segundo mais de 15 milhões de cópias vendidas. O segundo álbum vendeu mais de 6,5 milhões.


Sinopse do Filme:

Durante a noite da festa do fim de ano, Troy Bolton (Zac Efron), a estrela da equipe de Basquete do Colégio East High, conhece a inteligente Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) ,uma garota estudiosa.Os dois, são obrigados a participar de um concurso de karaoke. Aí, os dois descobrem a paixão que têm pela música e pouco a pouco, começam também a interessar-se um pelo outro.Depois das férias, Troy descobre que Gabriella é a nova aluna que acaba de entrar para a sua escola. Ele não quer que seus amigos saibam do concurso musical, e por isso Gabriella fica triste com ele. Mas felizmente, eles sem querer, participam de um teste musical e é informado para a escola. Chad Danford (Corbin Bleu), o melhor amigo de Troy, e Taylor (Monique Coleman), a melhor amiga de Gabriella, tentam fazê-los mudar de idéias quanto à audição, mas Ryan e sua irmã Sharpay (Lucas Grabeel e Ashley Tisdale), considerados grandes talentos musicais e artísticos da escola, são os que realmente tentam fazer com que os dois desistam da ideia de participar, propondo a Senhora Darbus (Professora responsavel pelo teatro e testes musicais), que fizesse as audições no mesmo dia do Decatlo Académico e do jogo de Basquete.

Apesar de todas as dificuldades, Troy e Gabriella conseguem arranjar um plano, com a ajuda dos seus amigos (que entretanto mudaram de idéias) fazer a audição, Gabriella ganhar o Decatlo académico e Troy ganhar com os Wildcats num jogo de final de campeonato de Basquete.
